Portraits have long been a mainstay of fine art. Portrait styles have changed with the artistic fashions of the times. Here are some of the many portraits that I’ve done. The ones done in graphite strive to be realistic; those done in acrylics tend to be more experimental.

This portrait was meant to be a little edgy. A favorite of mine.

Charlottesville Dancers: Kevin
Graphite on paper, 24″x16″
Lots of great dancing in Charlottesville. Kevin was dressed in style this particular night. You can even read the time on his watch – about 9:30 in the evening. He’s just getting warmed up! Swing dancing has been one of my passions for twenty years.

Charlottesville Dancers: Kristin
Graphite on paper, 24″x16″
Kristin is a favorite local dance instructor. Many of us have learned from her. It was a challenge to draw that crazy blouse!

The Savoir Swing Dance Team
Graphite on paper, 20″x26″
An excellent local dance team – fun to watch. Their costumes were decorated with fringe, but rendering the fringe was beyond my skill level at the time, so I punted.

Self-portrait
Acrylic on canvas, 12″x12″
A favorite small self-portrait, based on a photo taken by local photographer John Berry.
